The Lord is my light and my salvation,
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life,
of whom shall I be afraid?
(Ps. 27:1)

AN ORPHAN’S STORY AND SONG!

For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield. – Psalm 5:12 (NKJV).

Childhood

Reni is the sixth and the only girl born to devoutly Christian parents late Mr. Martins and Mrs. Juliana Onaiyekan in the Kabba, Nigeria. She never grew up to know her father. “I was told that he went to be with the Lord when I was six months old.” She did not have the opportunity to enjoy her mother for long either, as she also passed when Reni was seven years old. “However,” said she, “I’m thankful to God to have known her for this short period, I still have a good memory of her and despite the various needs I had as a child, love was something I never lacked both in and out of home.”

Thus, orphan at the age of seven, Reni had only God and her paternal aunt who was just a petty trader to care for her and this led her to depend on God early in life. Her aunt enrolled her shortly after her mum passed away in the choir of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Kabba where she started her journey of singing.

Young Adult

Reni attended St. Monica’s College, Kabba where she continued singing solo at the school auditorium every other week and sometimes performed duets with her childhood friend. Upon graduating high school, she attended the University of Ilorin in Nigeria, and naturally became a member of the college chapel choir (Chapel of Light). Reni graduated with a combined bachelor’s degree (Upper division) in English & Education.

After graduation, Reni completed her National Youth Service Corps (a one-year mandatory service to the nation by every Nigerian college graduate) in Lagos, Nigeria. Naturally, she became a member of the NCCF (Nigerian Christian Corpers’ Fellowship) where she often gave solo performances, and these earned her the nickname “Sister Special Song.”

In November 1992, Reni married Bernard Adebayo-Ige, P.E.; they are blessed with three sons. The family lives in Eastvale, CA from where she continues to minister to the people of God across many church organizations in North America and abroad, as well as co-pastor with her husband at Winners Christian Church, Corona.
